Appalachian Log Homes Owner and Builder, Dan Maughon, also owns and builds treehouses. It has been a passion of his for years to work with wood and to make clients dreams come true with building their own dream log homes. The first treehouse he ever built was the Treehouse by the Lake. It was actually a joke in the family, or some the family thought. One night while sitting down at the table eating a meal with his family he stated, "I am going to build a treehouse." Everyone chuckled and encouraged him to build one, but no one thought it would come to pass. In 2013 he began the build which was made out of wood milled off of the 300+ acre farm and many other repurposed items, which all have a story. Family members and friends loved the treehouse and ask if they could stay in it, honeymoon in it or celebrate anniversary's. Dan's daughter, Cassi Rose, advised him that he should list it on a booking site to see if anyone would like to book it for a get away. It became VERY popular and now weekends are the first days to book. Cassi manages the booking and inquiries for both treehouses now for her father, Dan.
Although Dan builds the treehouses, his wife Suzann enjoys decorating and coordinating the linens. She always puts a homey and cozy touch. She makes these treehouses feel comfortable for guests and always takes an extra step to making sure that "extras" are included.
When the pandemic hit is 2020, Dan was already scheming up another build called the Firetower. He named it the Firetower because he had some repurposed beams out of a old Firetower out of Jackson Hole, Wyoming which are now the main beams in the Firetower. These beams were carved with several main themes from the state park in Jackson Hole, WY. Dan, with the artistic assistant of his daughter Cassi, has carved many pieces outside and inside of both treehouses. The head board and foot board in the Treehouse by the Lake was drawn by Cassi and hand carved by Dan. The wall in the bathroom of the Treehouse by the Lake has hand carved fir trees, drawn by Cassi and carved by Dan. There is so much detail in these builds which make them so unique and such a memorable stay for anyone.
Dan is already in the process of designing another build on the other side of the lake that will be fit for a family so children can enjoy these treehouses as well.
